I passed by a gallery called The Grant Gallery a couple of days ago…
I was across the cobblestone street when I turned and I saw it…
A landscape out of a Sci Fi movie…
Huge juts of rock that hung there defying gravity,
But sloped away, bending over backwards and
bridging the expanse underneath it…
As large avian creatures flew over head like geese
in a geometric formation…
The sky behind them… royal blue…
Natural in it’s alien setting…
But would have been cause for alarm in our own real world…
This is one of Roger Dean’s paintings…
I knew it from a distance…
I never knew his name until just recently…
But I had known his work for years…
Ever since I was a kid…
I never saw them in a gallery…
Hell, I didn’t even know what a gallery was back then…
But I did park myself in front of my family’s huge stereo system…
And stared at the album covers that strewn the floor…
Many album covers, done by Roger Dean…
I remember his art distinctly…
Fantastical landscapes of alien worlds or archetypal ancient lands…
With vibrant almost glowing colors that took you someplace incredible…
I remember covers for Asia and Yes…
I also remember print ads of his work in various publications…
Trippy, ethereal masterpieces…

Dude… I got the munchies.
